FRI Innlandet, the county branch of FRI – The Norwegian Organization for Sexual and Gender Diversity, has the pleasure of inviting you to Winter Pride Lillehammer, Norway, from the 21-24 February 2019. We warmly welcome you this unique event.
Bring your party hat, an open heart and warm clothes. Come alone, bring your partner, or family and friends. Join us in Lillehammer as we celebrate diversity, love and inclusion in the Olympic city of Lillehammer.
In 2019, it will be 50 years since the start of the modern gay rights movement, and 25 years since the Winter Olympics were held in Lillehammer. This is something we want to celebrate.
Winter Pride Lillehammer 2019 will focus on history, the need for more inclusive communities, and the need to increase the visibility of the LGBTQI+ population.
Why are we celebrating Winter Pride?
Pride is both a celebration and a political voice. For many of us it’s one of the only arenas where we can show to the world who we really are. The feeling of being an outsider in society is something many of us experience, and something we’d like to change. Change into freedom: Freedom from discrimination, hate and abuse. Freedom from assumptions about our bodies, our gender identity, and our sexuality. The freedom to live a good life.
So let’s celebrate freedom at Winter Pride Lillehammer 2019. We welcome everyone, LGBTQI+ people, families, friends, supporters and especially those curious and interested in learning more about breaking the norms associated with gender and sexuality.
Historical background
The night of the 28th of June, 1969, was a turning point in the modern gay rights movement. Patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, decided to take on the local police and fight back against their constant harassment. Since then, pride has been celebrated around the world. We’re celebrating Winter Pride in Lillehammer to also show how proud we are of our diversity and community.
